LCI For more women in the airline industry

During my 32 years in aviation, I have witnessed the evolution and transformation of this industry, especially the participation of women in an area that has long been dominated by men.

When I started in the ’90s, there were only two other women I interacted with, but over the years, I’ve seen how that has changed.

I started as a freight forwarder, dedicating five years of effort and dedication to advance my career and continue contributing to the industry. I have progressed to roles of greater responsibility, including Supervisor, Instructor and Subject Matter Expert for Latin America and the Caribbean at our headquarters in Dallas-Fort Worth, and throughout these years, I have observed how the aviation industry has experienced significant growth in Chile.

The airport is an excellent example of the above. When I started working in American’s cargo business, the number of gates was only four. Today, in Nuevo Pudahuel, this number has increased to 76. Along with this growth, the presence of women in the industry has also increased, with more and more women taking on leadership and management roles. It is encouraging to see how more and more positions within companies have female teams and leaders, reflecting a positive change and greater diversity in our field.

The global fleet of nearly 250 PC-21 military training aircraft recently marked a historic milestone by surpassing a total of 500,000 flight hours.

Experience with current PC-21 customers shows that the next-generation Pilatus training system can help reduce the cost of training future pilots by more than 50%.

Ioannis Papachristofilou, recently appointed Vice President of Government Aviation at Pilatus, highlighted that “the PC-21 provides the air forces with a highly efficient platform for training military pilots. With state-of-the-art equipment and intelligent avionics, the training aircraft offers a high level of performance. “With the PC-21, hours of training can be accomplished with substantially less fuel, making it an exceptionally cost-effective, sustainable and intelligent training platform.”

In addition to the real aircraft, the PC-21 integrated training system includes mission planning and information systems, training materials, virtual reality tools and a flight simulator, an essential element in ground training.

Worldwide, the current fleet comprises nearly 250 PC-21s. Its clients include some of the world’s leading air forces in Europe, Australasia and the Middle East. The Spanish Air Force also trains with the PC-21. With the purchase of 16 additional PC-21s and associated simulators in March 2023, the Spanish Air Force is now the largest PC-21 operator in Europe. Also, the Swiss Air Force has successfully used the PC-21 since 2008 to train its future military pilots.

Gulfstream prepares for an exceptional year in 2024

Strong demand across its operations led General Dynamics to post sales of $42.3 billion by 2023, an increase of 7.3 percent from $39.4 billion in 2022. Net income for the year was of $3.3 billion compared to $3.4 billion in 2022. The success brought the company’s order book to a record level. of 93.6 billion dollars mainly due to the demand for aircraft and weapons systems, especially ammunition.

The trend is expected to continue into 2024, although it may be slowed by persistent supply chain issues and labor shortages. For next year, the company expects revenue to rise about 9 percent to about $46 billion.

Buoyed by unwavering demand for Gulfstream aircraft and thriving MRO activity, General Dynamics Aerospace continued its positive momentum throughout 2023, with only a temporary hiccup in the fourth quarter due to G700 certification hurdles. Analysts anticipate a rapid rebound in 2024 once the plane enters the market.

For the full year, segment sales were stable at $8.6 billion. According to the company’s 2023 earnings call, the certification delay deprived the segment of around $1 billion in revenue and $250 million in profits. The order book remained strong, increasing almost 5 percent to $20.5 billion over the year, reflecting the ongoing strong post-pandemic demand for business aircraft.
